The Book
An I for an I
A Novel of Baltimore, History, and the Weight of
Bloodlines.

Full Synopsis
A debut of uncommon scope.
An I for an I opens in Baltimore — in its streets, its schools, and its silences — where a young man known as Saba is learning who he is and who he might become. His voice carries the rhythms of the neighborhood he was raised in and the longing of someone who suspects his story is larger than the block he grew up on. As the older Menelik — the man Saba will become — the narrative reaches backward and forward at once.
Running parallel to Saba's coming-of-age is a present-day storyline of methodical violence and dogged pursuit. A vigilante executioner works with quiet precision. Detective Tourne Vinter works with equal determination to find him. Their storyline moves with the pacing of a thriller — but it is in service of something larger.
Beneath both narratives runs a current that reaches into antiquity: the story of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and the deeply held Ethiopian belief in their royal lineage — a lineage that Saba's name, and perhaps his life, is bound to.
An I for an I is a rare book — one that takes its time, trusts its reader, and earns every page. It is a debut of uncommon scope from a writer who has been preparing for it his entire life.
